Saturday June 2nd
Today was the day to begin our service projects. We all went straight to the school house to do some work on it. I was put on the latrine crew for the day with David, Travis, Sky, and Alan. Basically what we are doing for this project right now is creating a latrine cover for some villages that don't have latrines that way they can improve their sanitation. To do that, we had to get supplies first. So we headed off for the market to buy cement and chicken wire. After we got the supplies, we dug two holes 110cm x 110cm x 5in. We didn't really have a level so we had to improvise. We had two shovels so we used them to create somewhat of a straight line and then measured from one end, the middle, and the other end and marked the opposite side. Then we lined the other shovel up perpendicular to it and marked the adjacent sides. After that, we started digging. By the time we finished digging, it was time for language lesson number two. We basically just continued with our greetings. After language, we had lunch and after that, we went out to the village of Lassa Tchou and visited the church out there. We had to take a dirt road to get out there and once we got there we pulled up next to this cement building and on the name it said, "Lassa Tchou" and underneath that it said, "Yesu Cecewiye" which means "Family of Jesus." It was really exciting to see that in Africa because they are our brothers and sisters in Christ. The people out there were very warm and friendly and seemed very genuine. We sang with them for a bit and then David got up and preached some. After he was done we sang some more and prayed. It was a wonderful experience. I really enjoy worshiping with them. We then headed back for dinner. After that, we went to the Millers' house for our hang out time. We get one every Saturday so that we all get to just hang out and relax and talk about the week and spend some time with each other. Mary Margaret was sick so she wasn't able to come. She had a fever and was getting dizzy easily so she stayed back and relaxed. After talking a bit, we played a few games of Mafia. It was a lot of fun. Very tricky people that are very smart and have great strategies. After we finished with that, we wrapped up the evening and went home for bed.
