Tuesday May 29th

Today was my first day in Africa! Yay! It was a great day despite running off of about five hours of sleep. We landed in Accra, Ghana at around 8:30am and I took it in. I look around and saw a bunch of trees and buildings that were no more than three stories tall. I also took notice fo the gray clouds on the horizon and secretly hoped I would end up getting caught in the rain. After about two hours, and two lost bags, we finally left the airport (only after being repeatedly asked for money, cigarettes, and magazines). Our hosts, David Reeves, Bryan Reis, and Brett Emerson picked us up and brought us back to the guest house in Accra. After unloading our stuff, David states that he has to go to the U.S. Embassy and asks if anybody will go with. Mary Margaret, Alan, Sky and I decide to go. After we got in the car, it started to rain. After getting to the Embassy just a short jog from the car, it starts to downpour. The rain was like nothing I'd ever seen, with amazing lightning and thunder to provide an amazing storm experience.Needless to say, by the time we got to the Embassy, we were soaked. We went in to try to get pages added to David's passport but he wasn't able to put them in because it would have taken three days. So, we ran back through the rain to the car and went back to the guest house for lunch. We changed clothes and then went to Champs and ate. After lunch we went back to the guest house and everybody split up between the missionaries and went to the market. The currency in Ghana is the Cedis. The exchange rate is about 10,000:1. Makes things kind of confusing. After the market, David went to two pharmacies. We then headed back to the gues house and tried to play spoons and a lot of us were exhausted from the flight so they went to do something else and a few of us ended up playing Nertz. After cards, some people showered while others talked. We all then went to the roof to watch the sunset and it was amazing. After that, we ate dinner. It was really good. We all ended up going to be around 8:00pm or 9:00pm because we were so tired.
